How do I get rid of double entries for the same person when the program doesn't show the double entry in the "names list"?

Example:

Let's say I was working on Joseph Wesley Hittle and Anna Grube Pontius:

Let's say that in doing so, I had Iden as their son, along with Clarence and Philip.

Let's say that someplace along the line I had found an Isaac Richard Hittle who was the son of Anna G. Hittle and had entered that record as an un-associated one. At that point, I have 2 Anna Hittles.

Later, I recognize that the 2 Anna Hittles are indeed the same person and that Isaac is indeed the elder siblings of Iden, Clarence and Philip.

I'm struggling trying to find the routine in the program that will allow me to merge the 2 seperate records and then subsequently also have Isaac's father as Joseph Wesley, without having 2 indications for Anna's spousal relationship to Joseph Wesley.

I can do it, but it isn't clean, and therefore I get what I consider to be a cluttered report when I run either ahnentafels for myself, or descendant lists from GMH.

Help, please !!

Joe

right now I do not have Legacy up and running.. Probably won't have until my main computer is in its new location. If you're still struggling with it then, I believe we can work out your delema over the phone while sitting in front of the computers with Legacy running.

Thanks!! I'll be looking forward to that.

Here's what I'm actually working on that causes the issue to arise (the Isaac Richard scenario was but a hypothetical).

If the Claypool(e) line is correct back through the DeBohun family, it intersects with the DeBohun family which got Americanized to Boone. Going back Sandy's line it appears that the 2 families intersect back about the 13th century.

Another more recent cause of my frustration is the Wells/Wiggins scenario where it seems extremely likely that Patricia Straub's (and others) realization that first cousins married causes the double linkages very quickly in the ancestral path.

What I'm ending up with is that according to the way I've got the "stuff" entered, it appears on reports that the same two people got married more than once on the same date. I know what the resulting report indicates, but I'd prefer to have the linkages as single occurrences rather than multiple.

I'm still learning on this one, and while I do appreciate the Legacy program in general, this particular non-intuitive (to me anyway) remedy continues to escape my understanding.

Thanks!!

Joe
